Dirty Restrooms Are Bad for Business

May 29, 2019

When it comes to presenting a business in a good light, many people look at the storefront and the customer spaces, such as the retail floor or the dining area. The bathrooms, in contrast, often do not get enough attention. The end result is that customers go in to use the facilities and walk out feeling doubtful about whether or not the business is hygienic. This is especially devastating if the business is a restaurant.

Following this experience, customers may make a point of not returning. In the age of social media, pictures of the bathroom may also end up on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Reddit. The old saying goes that all PR is good PR, but it doesn’t prove true in this instance.

Assess the Facilities

Everyone has a different tolerance level for uncleanliness, so it is important to understand what may make your bathroom dirty. The first thing you need to know is whether or not everything works as it should. Are the bathrooms flushing? Do the faucets come on?
You also need to ensure there is an adequate supply of toilet paper, hand towels, and soap. Next, you should note whether or not the toilets, sinks, and floors are clean. And finally, you need to ensure the floors are dry. Wet floors are not only a hygiene problem; they may also lead to a slip-and-fall lawsuit.

Correct the Problems

Once you note the issues, fixing them is relatively easy. However, consistency is key. A restroom that is clean only the first three days of the week is still dirty in the end. One way that businesses maintain a consistently clean bathroom is by spot cleaning and passing some janitorial duties on to lower level workers.

A more efficient way is to partner with a janitorial company. These contractors ensure the restroom is up-to-spec day after day. To partner with an experienced janitorial company, contact U.S. Servico Inc at 248-671-4229 or email us at service@usservico.com.
